CSDFEA Awards $3,500 in Scholarships

The County of San Diego Filipino-American Employee Association (CSDFEA) employee resource group awarded $3,500 in scholarships to local Filipino American students during a virtual celebration Oct. 27.
The Larry Itliong 2020 Scholarship awardees were recognized:

CSDFEA also recognized the Larry Itliong 2020 Art Contest winners:

The prompt for the 2020 Larry Iltiong Art Contest was, "1930's Watsonville Riots." In response, CSDFEA received eight entries - six visual art pieces, one original song and one short film. View the art pieces and hear the song online.

While worksite flu shot fairs are over – you can still get a free flu shot. Get your vaccination with Kaiser Permanente and UnitedHealthcare.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. Getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 will be more important than ever!

The County of San Diego Filipino American Employees Association (CSDFEA) is now accepting nominations for the 2021-2022 Board of Directors. Positions are as follows: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, auditor, and three general members.

This is a great opportunity to play an active role in the Employee Resource Groups while gaining leadership and program development experience. Interested individuals are encouraged to read about CSDFEA’s programs by visiting their website and/or reaching out to the current Board of Directors.
The deadline to submit the self-nomination form (open in Internet Explorer) and candidacy statement to csdfea@sdcounty.ca.gov is close of business Nov. 23. CSDFEA members will vote the week of November 30, 2020.

Last month, CECO hosted a survey on Insite to help identify opportunities to bolster outreach and programming. Here is some information CECO wanted to share to help explain CECO…
The CECO mission is to stimulate among the employees and retirees of the County of San Diego an interest and concern towards the health, safety, and quality of life of the people of San Diego County. CECO accomplishes this each year by lending a hand to our community via distribution of grants to local nonprofits who support these same pillars and assist County employees experiencing a one-time financial crisis.
In order to raise funds for grants, CECO relies on the generosity of County employees and retirees. CECO has nearly 1,000 members and with as little as $2 a paycheck, or a one-time donation, you are able to join the legacy of giving. 100% of raised funds go directly back to the community via grants or assisting employees experiencing a financial crisis.
Each year, at the recommendation of the CECO's allocation committee, the organization approves grants to local nonprofits based on available funds. Past grant recipients and info can be found on CECO's website. Selected nonprofits receive grant funding based on their requested need for tangible items, such as beds, medication, food, musical instruments, or laptops.
“What's great about CECO is its support for nonprofits both big and small because we know each one makes its own unique impact and mark on the communities they serve,” said CECO President Nadia Binderup Moshirian.

Important Mobile Device Update Coming Soon

Accessing work apps, emails and files from your work-issued cellphone and other mobile devices will soon be even easier. The County Technology Office will roll out a new device management software to nearly 5,000 devices starting Nov 16.
The replacement of AirWatch (Intelligent Hub) for Microsoft Intune will occur in phases—so keep your eyes open for an important email regarding next steps!
Future emails will include the additional information you need to download, install and setup Intune. The email will include step-by-step instructions, along with screenshots to follow along.
The update to Microsoft Intune supports CTO’s ongoing efforts to ensure our devices are secure and have the latest Microsoft software functionality. Intune will allow you to use Office 365 apps on your mobile devices such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, OneDrive and SharePoint
Please note, if you do not migrate your device from AirWatch to Intune by the designated migration date indicated in the email, you will lose access to County apps and data including your email!

Is there anyone in the world exactly like you? No. People perceive, react, and move in the world differently depending on their unique and overlapping identities.
The theory of intersectionality was coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw in her 1989 work titled “Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex.” The theory focuses on how these layers of identity produce a different experience for each person suffering discrimination; how they are viewed, understood, and treated. The end goal of it is “to make room for more advocacy and remedial practices to create a more egalitarian system.”
