Get A Flu Vaccination for Your Shot to Win

Christena Shanley, Legal Support Manager

Not only can the flu shot help protect you from influenza, but you could win a sweet prize.

Here’s how: get your flu shot, snap a selfie to appear on InSite and submit your photo to communications@sdcounty.ca.gov. Five random entries will be selected to win a farm box filled with fruits and veggies from Daily Harvest Express. Winners will be announced on Oct. 26.

Flu season is here. Influenza is highly contagious and can spread quickly in our community.  The flu shot is the most important step in protecting against the flu.

“Make sure you are doing everything you can to protect yourself, your family, and those around you by getting a flu shot,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer.

Help fight the flu. Get your flu shot at no cost! See the schedule.

Turn Your Exercise into Donated Meals

feed-2.png

Live Well San Diego has partnered with an app called Vizer that allows you to turn your exercise time into donated meals to the San Diego Food Bank.

Sign up for the free app, sync your Fitbit, Apple Watch or smartphone to track your steps or exercise minutes, and then get moving! When you reach 30 minutes or 10,000 steps, a sponsor will donate a meal on your behalf to the San Diego Food Bank.

This month is Hunger Action Month and our goal is to get 25,000 meals donated for students with the campaign Steps for Students.

Fraud Alert for Employees

With the rise in unemployment claims, there has also been a rise in fraudulent unemployment claims filed using employees’ personal information including Social Security numbers. Scammers are illegally filing for unemployment in the name of other people in the hopes of cashing in on unemployment benefits.

You do not need to do anything at this time. However, if the Department of Human Resources believes that you have been a victim of this type of fraud, your departmental human resources officer will reach out to you.

It’s a good reminder to continue to be vigilant on protecting your personal information.

Watch the Latest Listening Session on Social Justice

Our Employee Resource Group Council hosted a listening session on social justice, equity and identity on Thursday, Sept. 10. Watch the archive and challenge yourself!

The ERG Council invites employees to participate in the CA4Health Racial Equity and Social Justice 21-Day Challenge. The challenge is designed to help us discover how racial, social and environmental injustices impact our community, to connect with one another, and identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.

Participants will dedicate approximately 30 minutes each day on activities such as reading an article, watching a video, reflecting on personal experiences and more.

The challenge starts Sept. 14. Register now.

For questions, suggestions, or to get in touch with the ERG Council, please email ergcouncil@sdcounty.ca.gov.
