Be a Lifesaver – Donate at the County’s Blood Drive

A previous blood drive event at the CAC

Did you know one pint of blood can save three lives?

You can save lives, too, by taking part in the County’s 38th Annual Blood Drive in April. There is a critical need for blood donations, and all blood types are welcome.

The County’s blood drive is one of the largest held by the San Diego Blood Bank. Employees donated 450 pints last year. This year, you can roll up your sleeve and help the County meet its new goal – 500 pints.

The Blood Bank is setting up shop at 22 different County job locations next month. The first donation center will open April 1 at the North Coastal Family Resource Center. The event officially kicks off on April 4 at the County Administration Center. Chair Nathan Fletcher will be among the first to donate.

But don’t wait until April to make an appointment. You can look over the schedule now for a time, date and location that suits you best. Employees can use County time to give blood by asking for their supervisor’s approval in advance. Appointments are highly encouraged but walk-up donors will be accepted if open slots are available.

COVID-19 guidelines will still be in effect and all donors and staff are required to wear masks. For questions regarding deferrals or blood donations related to COVID-19, review the Blood Bank guidelines for eligibility. If you can’t donate, family or friends are welcome.

The blood drive supports the Live Well San Diego vision for a region that is building better health, living safely and thriving.
